How long in advance should a field trip be booked?
~We would suggest a month or more in advance due to high demand, however, if we have an empty slot in our schedule we could squeeze you in as early as two weeks in advance.
How is payment made and is a deposit needed?
~Payment should be made the day of the show, prior to the presentation, in the form of a check, money order, or cash. No deposit is needed.
How much time do we need?
~We need at least 2-hours; 1 ½ hours for the show and 30 minutes for set-up and clean up.
What type of space do we need?
~We need the use of an auditorium, cafeteria, or area similar in size. See attached seating chart for an idea of what it will look like.
What type of equipment do we need?
~We bring all the equipment to you; all we need is an electrical outlet close by.
How many classes can attend at one time?
~For the best experience we recommend no more then 5 classes at one time. We do present our show in individual classrooms for a more one on one experience, however, they would not get to see all of the centers. See next question.
Can you come to my classroom instead of a cafeteria, auditorium, or area similar in size?
~The answer is YES! We do come to the classrooms for shows, however, many aspects of the large show are different in the smaller space. For example, the price would still be the same but the show itself would only be an hour long. This is due to the more close up and personal experience that the students would receive. Also, we cannot bring all of our centers for lack of space; we do provide many of the same opportunities for the students to explore but not in a 'station' setting. Their are positives to both size shows. It is up to you to decide which experience works best for your school, grade level, or class.
How will all of the students be able to view all of the reptiles?
~At the end of our presentation, the last 40 minutes or so, the students will be able to walk around to view a variety of stations. One of the stations is dedicated to the reptiles from the show. The stations will be spaced accordingly to allow for the best traffic flow of students.
What will they view in the stations?
~There will be five stations set-up to include...
1. Snake sheds and a 'touch' table with a variety of items the students can pick up and look at.
2. Displayed insects, scorpions, spiders, turtle shells, x-rays and another 'touch' table.
3. A hands on table that the students will be able to look through magnifying glasses and feel a variety of snake sheds.
4. The reptiles from the show will be in viewable cages for the students to see.
5. And finally, Scott will be holding a reptile from the show and answering any questions the students may have.
All objects on the tables are for the students to be able to have a hands on approach to learning, while the display boards and reptiles are for eyes only. We ask that teachers please ensure that the students do not touch any of these objects or tap on the cages for the safety of the reptiles.
What type of lesson plans are provided?
~We provide the teacher with the lesson plan of the show. The shows have been carefully planned according to the specific Science benchmarks for your grade level. Everything presented is aligned with the Florida Sunshine State Standards. We also provide an assessment for the teacher to use after the field trip to test the student’s comprehension of what they viewed.
~view and print lesson plan
~view and print assessment for grades 6-12
~view and print assessment for grades 2-5
~view and print assessment for grades Prek-1
What is expected from the teacher?
~The only thing we ask the teachers to do is to please discuss with your students prior to the show the student expectations; see below. We also ask that you please supervise the students during the show to ensure that they are following the rules.
What is expected from the students?
~The students are expected to…
1. Remain seated until the presenter instructs them otherwise.
2. Remain quiet and be respectful to those around them.
3. Raise their hand when the presenter asks for questions.
4. When the reptiles are out, please do not make any sudden noises or movements as this will startle the reptiles and can be
dangerous to the presenter.
5. Keep their hands off of any display boards or reptile cages. These stations are for ‘eyes’ only.
6. Walk from station to station and be respectful to other students who are also trying to view items and reptiles.
